Meaning & Context

The Messenger: The prophet Isaiah highlights the messenger’s feet not for their appearance, but for their swift and joyful action. After a long period of exile and hardship, the sight of a herald running across the mountains indicates that the long-awaited rescue has finally arrived.

The Message: The good news consists of three monumental declarations: peace has come, salvation is here, and God is actively reigning as King.

New Testament Fulfillment: This verse is famously quoted by the Apostle Paul in the New Testament (Romans 10:15) to describe those who preach the Gospel. It draws a parallel between ancient Israel being freed from Babylonian captivity and the spiritual freedom found in Christ.
